So many things going on
I feel so stressed out because there are so many things going on right now. I am in school online and I am starting to have trouble being motivated to do my work so now I am behind and do no want to do it anymore. Not only am I having problems with school, but I am working full time and I am a full time mother. My son is 9 months old and very active and I am doing this on my own. I have my family, but they aren't as much help as I thought they would be. The only thing that was motivating me was my son because I want to be able to give him the life I never had, but I think I am really worn out.I try so hard but things keep going differently than what I have planned. If I can pass my classes then I'll be done in November with an associates degree, but I have no encouragement anymore and no motivation. I am always tired and can't seem to get the sleep that I need. I can't sleep at night because my body is still awake and by the time I do get to sleep my son is waking up to eat. Right now I just feel like giving up; today has been the worst day I have had in a long time. Then I am in the middle of trying to relocate for the second time in a year. I am at the point where I want to say "f*** everything". But, I am trying to have a new approach with life as it is now. Yet everything is so hard and complicated for me.

What is America to Me?!
Vanessa White

English 1120
America today is a totally different place than what it was hundreds of years ago. Naming America had to be a very difficult task for him with little to no help from others. Society has become more comfortable with people that are new to this country. Christopher Columbus had a short life on a long journey of unexpected events. People have changed drastically from then and now.
Some of the islands that surround America, but are considered part of America, were named words that, we, Americans cannot pronounce or have never seen before. Christopher Columbus was obviously a very diverse person in order for him to want to find the islands of America. He had to be smart to name them the way he did without the input of any other person. In his letters, he never mentioned anyone helping him out with this voyage, so it had to be a very hard thing to do with naming America.
When we were first found, the community was more afraid of new comers than welcoming. Christopher Columbus says, “There were neither towns nor villages on the seashore, but only small hamlets, with the people of which I could not have speech because they fled immediately”. My thoughts towards this statement are, whether or not he would be able to talk to them even if they did not run away. With the difference of languages it would be very difficult to approach someone with a conversation, as of now, it is a lot easier because we can learn different languages in order to carry a conversation with a person who speaks a different language. So we as a community or society are more comfortable with new people coming to our country.
Through Christopher Columbus’ journey of discovery, he has been through lots of different situations. He has grown physically, mentally, and spiritually as a man of new findings. He has had to go through people being scared of him, to people saying that he was evil, to being alone on his journey. I believe it would have been very complicated for him to live through all of the unexpected situations. At the age of twenty-eight, he talks about death because of him being sick. Now people would never talk about death at such a young age even if they are sick. Christopher Columbus really looked reality as it was and not how he wanted to be. He never really gave himself a chance to dream of a future other than exploring to find new land for his country.
In conclusion, I have said and have proven that America is not like it used to be. The names of our American islands have become improperly pronounced and misused. American society has become a more comfortable place for foreign people to live in. People have become more outgoing but harsh at the same time. Christopher Columbus has had a very hard life going through this journey alone. He had no money and really did not have any support of the people of his country. So, America has changed a lot from the discovery and the years today.

An issue on teen pregnancy
I feel that teen pregnancy has become more common than it should be. Teens are willing to endure the pleasures of consuming a child, but are they ready to endure the consequences? Are they really ready to become a full time parent? Will they succeed and move on to greater things after the birth of their child? “Does sexy TV lead to teen pregnancy?” asks Entertainment Weekly journalist, Gary Susman. Education should be the number one factor to preventing teen pregnancy
Entertainment Weekly asks the question, “Does sexy TV lead to teen pregnancy” (Gary Susman)? The article alone is targeting the teens and parents of teens that are talking about the situations that are to come. The article by Gary Susman, in summary, says that television shows has become more sexual and may be a factor to the problem of teen pregnancies. The purpose of the article is to ask people why is there so many teens getting pregnant. Although the television shows have gotten “sexier”, the teen pregnancy rates have gone down in the past seventeen years. So obviously, sexy television shows are not the problem.
In my opinion, it is the up bringing of the child rather than the shows that they look at. A teen begins to have curiosities about having sex and will explore. If a parent elaborates the correct way to handle that specific situation when it occurs, then the teen will think it through before acting on it. When the parent is involved with the teen and communicates on a regular basis, it is easier for the teen to talk to their parent when the opportunity comes and when they feel like they are being pressured to have sex. Peer pressure can cause a teen to act on situations with out thinking or consoling some who might give them advice that can help them in this type of situation.
Education is the number one factor to preventing teen pregnancy and to better things if the teen is pregnant. “Teenagers who have babies are more likely not to finish high school and have their future plans interrupted” (www.pregnantteenhelp.org). With the knowledge of teen pregnancy prevention, a teen can avoid going through the situation of not being able to accomplish as much as they want. Even if a teen has a child, they should try to continue their education, so that they can provide for their child and give the child the things that they, themselves, could not get as a child.
In conclusion, teen pregnancy rates have lowered in the past couple of years and hopefully will continue to decline. The more education you have about sex, as a teen, the better off you are. You would think before having sex and would realize that it is not always the way you think it is. Life is not easy, but once you have a child it becomes even more complicated to achieve the things you once wanted to be, or do, as a child. I would encourage any teen, especially the African-American, to try their hardest to further their education not only about sex but about things that they want to be able to accomplish in life before having children.
